Hi all, I never heard of FTP until a week ago and don't have a freakin clue how to do this. All the information I have read about doesn't give me step by step instructions and I need to get some files for text books. I have tried IE and have the jaws scripts but don't know what to do with them. I really don't want to pay for this service because I will only need it a couple times. Please help. Thanks.

Snowflower,
What version of Windows are you using? If you have XP, I can send you via email the free ftp client I use. Well, the current version costs money, but the older version I have is completely free. If you'd like me to email you the FTP client I use, send me a private message with your email address.

there is a free ftp client available. Its accessibility is acceptable and it is calle dfilezilla. Ftp mean file transfer protocol. A protocol is a kind of communication method used by computers, people, and just about everythign else. Protocols... for greeting for example are of course the know hi or hello and such. Ftp has its own for of messages. When you download a file for example, the command RETR (standing for retrieve) is sent to the server which can produce different kinds of response like (150, opening data connectioin or 530, permission denied, or 530 restricted and so on...). So go to filezillaproject.net and get it. Ftp lets you basically share files among different computers. Internet explorer works as an ftp client when you prefix a URL with ftp:// . So, if we go to ftp://somesite.net your computer typically opens a connection to wherever that server is accepting them on their side. You can upload and delete sometimes (if permisssions for such thigns are enabled). I have my own ftp that i use at home to access files remotely and delete or add more files if I ever needed to do so. Its great for transferring files from an old computer to a new on e or the opposite. Any more questions just send me a message or just keep 'em coming.
